sabrina the teenage witch melissa joan hart

It's been 22 years since Melissa Joan Hart played Sabrina Spellman on "Sabrina the Teenage Witch."

The series followed Sabrina from her 16th birthday, when she learned she was a half-witch, all the way through college during its seven-season run.

Sabrina is now coming back to TV thanks to Netflix's new series, "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina," though it's much darker than the original. So in anticipation for the new series, we're looking back on the '90s "Sabrina."

Here's what the cast has been up to since.

Melissa Joan Hart was Sabrina Spellman, a girl who discovers she's half-witch on her 16th birthday.

Hart was already known for starring on "Clarissa Explains It All" before playing Sabrina.

Hart is set to star on "No Good Nick," an upcoming comedy series for Netflix.

The 42-year-old actress continued to play Sabrina on various shows, including "Clueless" and "Boy Meets World" through the '90s. She had another hit show with "Melissa & Joey," which ran on Freeform for four seasons. She also competed on season nine of "Dancing With the Stars."

Hart has been married to musician Mark Wilkerson since 2003 and they have three sons.

Caroline Rhea is known for playing Hilda Spellman, Sabrina's fun and zany aunt.

She started her career as a stand-up comedian.

Andrew Lincoln says he regrets the way Glenn died on 'The Walking Dead'

  • In an interview with The New York Times, Andrew Lincoln says he regrets how Steven Yeun's character, Glenn, was killed off the show.
  • On the season seven premiere, Glenn's skull was brutally bashed in by Negan as his friends and wife watched.
  • The creative choice led to a lot of fan backlash.
  • "I regret the manner in which it happened," said Lincoln, who thinks the scene could have been filmed differently. "We’ve been able to terrify people in film for 100 years without having to show an eyeball."

The Walking Dead star Andrew Lincoln regrets the gory demise of Glenn. It didn’t take long for The Walking Dead to blossom from cult curiosity to a full-blown success story.

While the show had to weather high-profile behind the scenes drama in the early years, such as the departure of original showrunner Frank Darabont, fans couldn’t get enough of it. Just like the comic that inspired it, the series soon became infamous for killing off beloved characters in creatively bloody ways.

The Walking Dead was hit with controversy following the season 7 premiere episode “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be,” which resolved the mystery of who new villain Negan murdered with his baseball bat Lucille.

The show pulled a shocking twist by having Negan kill two characters, with Abraham and Glenn both being dispatched. The graphic violence of the sequence led to a backlash by fans, who felt the show had gone too far in its attempts to shock viewers.

Andrew Lincoln recently departed The Walking Dead after nine seasons, and in a new interview with The New York Times, he agrees with the sentiment that Glenn’s demise pushed the envelope too far.

I regret the manner in which it happened. We’ve been able to terrify people in film for 100 years without having to show an eyeball. When that happens, it diminishes what we’re trying to make, which in my mind’s eye is a family drama set in hell. It’s not a sort of B-movie gorefest.

While Lincoln acknowledges gore plays an important role on The Walking Dead, when it comes to the death of a fan favorite character, he feels the scene could have been staged differently.

I don’t discredit that. It’s part of the thrills and spills of the show. But when we’re dealing with losing somebody — and a very brutal, human kind of death — I think it’s just taste. My taste is, I think it would be more disturbing just keeping the camera on Maggie’s face [Glenn’s wife, played by Lauren Cohan]. And maybe that’s why I want to direct, because I want to make what I’ve been filming in my head.

The Walking Dead’s producer Gale Anne Hurd stated that following the response to the episode that some of the violence of the season was toned down. On the other side, the showrunners felt the brutality of the scene was necessary, and the trauma and aftermath of it would play a big role in the season. It’s interesting to get Lincoln’s perspective on the debate over Glenn’s death, and his concept of the scene playing out through Maggie’s reaction arguably could have made for a more effective sequence.

While Lincoln is no longer part of The Walking Dead series, fans were relieved to hear that not only did Rick survive his final episode, but that he’ll be returning for three new TV movies. The storyline is still under wraps, but they’ll involve Rick dealing with a whole new community of survivors.

  • Sophie Turner originally dyed her hair red to play Sansa Stark on "Game of Thrones."
  • The natural blonde eventually switched to wigs because her hair almost fell out.

"Game of Thrones" star Sophie Turner has been close to a hair disaster.

In a new interview with Glamour, the 22-year-old actress said a dye job almost caused her to lose her natural hair.

"A few years ago I was trying to go back from red to blond, and it destroyed my hair to the point that I had to use a wig for 'Game of Thrones," the actress said. "They wouldn't let me dye it back red or my hair would've fallen out."

The natural blonde first dyed her hair red when she was cast as Sansa Stark on "Game of Thrones" at the age of 13.

She clarified in a tweet that it wasn't the red dye from "Game of Thrones" that ruined it, but another dye when she tried to go back to blonde.

"Just wanting to clarify on this that it wasn't my red dye that I used for game of thrones that ruined my hair," she wrote. "It was for another job that I had my hair dyed blonde for."

She has spoken about the struggles of changing her hair color before.

"It was difficult, especially being in an all-girls school," she told Vogue in June. "There seemed to be a bad connotation with red or ginger hair, so I was nervous, but it was nice to transform my look for my first role. Plus, it spurred my appreciation for how hair can change one's look and personality."

She said her blonde hair makes her feel "confident and outgoing."

"Game of Thrones" returns for its eighth and final season in 2019.

Amber Portwood, an original cast member from 'Teen Mom,' said she might leave the show following Internet backlash

Amber Portwood

  • On Monday's episode of "Teen Mom," cast member Kristina Shirley shared her miscarriage experience and Amber Portwood shared her miscarriage experience, too.
  • Portwood's sharing her experience led to some backlash on social media with people claiming Amber wanted to "steal the spotlight" from Kristina.
  • Portwood said she won't let her name "get smeared" anymore and tweeted she has "to quit this show."

Earlier this year, the cast of "Teen Mom OG" went through a major shakeup when Farrah Abraham was fired from the show and now, it sounds like another one of the original moms might be ready to move on. According to her recent tweets, Amber Portwood may quit "Teen Mom OG" after this season.

Portwood's comments come after she's received harsh criticism from fans about a scene Monday's episode. When her ex, Gary Shirley, and his wife, Kristina Shirley, visited Portwood in California, Kristina shared her experience having a miscarriage as a result of an ectopic pregnancy.

During the conversation, Portwood brought up her own miscarriage that she'd had while dating ex-fiancé Matt Baier. This was the first time she had publicly shared this information.

Amber Matt BaierSince then, fans have tweeted about the situation, accusing Portwood of taking the opportunity to make Kristina's miscarriage about herself. And now, Portwood's saying she has to leave the show.

"I can't do this anymore," Portwood tweeted on Monday, adding a few minutes later, "I have to quit this show."

In later tweets, Portwood seemed to blame MTV editing for choosing to "make sure I'm never truly heard for their [sic] own benefit."

"The heartache this show has put me through is too much to bear anymore," Portwood added in another tweet. " If I will not be shown then there's nothing more to do. My name will not get smeared anymore. I hope everyone is resting easy with the money they've made off of heartache and pain that I've endured."

She also offered up an explanation for why she opened up about her own miscarriage when the topic of Kristina's came up.

"All I wanted was for [Kristina] is her to not feel alone and when she bravely said it on camera that really gave me strength to speak to her and let her know I understand and I am here for her. She was heartbroken. I could see it in her eyes," she tweeted.

She also expressed how the sweet parts of who she is aren't shown on camera.

"Words hurt and I'm such a sweet person and those parts are never really shown," she added in another tweet. " I've only wanted to help children and teenagers not go through what I did including my daughter."

Kristina herself hasn't posted any criticism on social media concerning the episode. She sent out a tweet on Monday thanking her husband and Amber for their support.

This season has been one of transition for "Teen Mom OG" after Bristol Palin and Cheyenne Floyd were added to the cast.

This isn't the first time that she has threatened to quit the show. In 2016, she tweeted something similar.

"Sad to say but I'm not going to be apart of #Teenmomog. The way I have been portrayed and treated is unfair. @MTV sending all my love."

INSIDER reached out to MTV for comment about Portwood's tweets but did not immediately hear back.

Hulu has a small but fun line-up this month, which includes a clever and poignant new original series called "The Bisexual," as well as some full seasons of extremely binge-able shows like "Top Chef" and "Vanderpump Rules."

Here are five TV shows worth watching on Hulu this month.

"Dietland" season one

Release date: Dropped Friday, November 2

This brilliant AMC series was canceled after one season, but we're glad it has a home on Hulu now, where it can hopefully gain an audience that can demand another season. The show is timely, scathing, but impressively funny as it tells unconventional stories of complex women filled with rage.

"Vanderpump Rules" season six

Release date: Dropped Saturday, November 3

Need some mindless reality television in your life? This wild and dramatic reality show is, ironically, a pleasant escape from reality. The seventh season comes out in early December, so you have some time to catch up.

"Top Chef" season 15

Release date: Dropped Tuesday, November 6

"Top Chef" hasn't lost its spark after all these years, and it's such a great show to binge. To change things up a bit for its Colorado-based 15th season, a few former contestants had the opportunity to join the competition. This spiced up the show without giving the people who had already been on the culinary contest too much of an edge.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW? The teen moms from '16 and Pregnant'

farrah teen momIt's hard to believe that it's been almost a decade since MTV's "16 & Pregnant" premiered for the first time.

Although some of the show's most memorable moms ended up starring on "Teen Mom" and its various spinoffs, many of the girls who were featured on "16 & Pregnant" didn't remain on-air.

Here's what some of the most unforgettable moms from "16 & Pregnant" have been up to.

Maci Bookout is now married with three children.

In "16 & Pregnant," we saw Bookout give birth to her first son, Bentley, with her ex-boyfriend Ryan Edwards.

Edwards was recently arrested for heroin possession, and he is now married to Mackenzie Standifer. They're due to welcome their first child together later this year.

Now starring in "Teen Mom OG,"Bookout married husband Taylor McKinney in 2016, and they've teamed up in running their own clothing line together called Things That Matter.

Together, they have had two more children: 2-year-old Maverick and 3-year-old Jayde.

Mackenzie Douthit is building a fitness empire.

There have been rumors that Douthit — who is now Mackenzie McKee — would return to the "Teen Mom" series this year, but outside of an MTV special about her life, it seems like she's staying away from reality shows while her mom is battling terminal brain cancer.

McKee is still married to the father of her children, Josh. They have three children — Jaxie, Gannon, and Broncs. McKee also offers fitness coaching through her company Body By Mac.

Chelsea Houska is now Chelsea DeBoer.

On "16 & Pregnant," viewers watched Houska's toxic relationship with her child's father, Adam Lind. Fortunately, her and Adam have split.

In 2016, she married Cole DeBoer, and they have two children together — 1-year-old Watson and a daughter named Layne, who was born in August. Chelsea and Adam's daughter Aubree is now nine and earlier this year she was able to change her last name to Lind-DeBoer.

Chelsea still stars on "Teen Mom 2."

Warning: Spoilers ahead for "Riverdale" season three, episode four, titled "The Midnight Club."

"Riverdale" has been teasing a deadly secret between some of the parents, and the truth has finally been revealed.

On Wednesday's flashback episode of the hit CW show, Alice Cooper explains to Betty what happened one fateful night when the parents were juniors in high school. Little did they think their high school secret would come to haunt them as adults.

Here's everything we know about the secret.

The parents' pact is connected to "Gryphons and Gargoyles."

Hermione riverdale

The second episode of season three ends with Hermione and Hiram Lodge, Tom Keller, Sierra McCoy, FP Jones, Fred Andrews, Penelope Blossom, and Alice seated in Hermione's mayoral office.

"We made a vow in high school," Hermione says. "Look, now that the scout is back, safe and sound, thank God, we can only assume that he'll start talking and that whatever he says might lead back to us, to the secret that we buried all those years ago."

Hermione then tells the parents about Dilton, who is dead, and Ben, who is in a coma, being found with blue lips. Because Jughead is the one who found the bodies, the parents know that they won't be able to sweep that detail under the rug.

"We made a pact to never revisit that night," Tom says. "Not to mention it, not to even think about it. My vote is we stick with that."

Hermione says they won't be able to do that if it's putting their children at risk.

Jughead and Betty learn that the blue lips are a consequence of a game called "Gryphons and Gargoyles." Jug decides to play the game with Ethel to gain access to the game's manual.

When FP discovers the manual, he and Alice freak out on Betty and Jughead.

"This game is pure evil," FP says before burning the manual in a fire.

Betty goes to Alice to find out what the parents know about the game, and Alice tells the whole story.

They kept a deadly secret from junior year.

jug as fp cheryl as penelope flashback riverdaleAfter ending up in detention together their junior year, FP, Alice, Fred, Penelope, Sierra, and Hermione find "G&G" in a teacher's desk. They start to play and quickly become addicted. They dress up, they follow quests, and they even sneak into the school after hours to continue their game.

One night, as they are prancing around the halls in costume, they hear noises and run into Hiram, Marty Mantle, and Daryl Doiley also dressed up and on a quest for "G&G." The two groups unite for an even bigger game.

They all receive invites to a special night to "ascend to the next level of the game." Daryl and Penelope each think each other set the party up, but neither of them did. At the ascension party, Hiram hands everyone a drug called Fizzle Rocks, and everyone except for Alice takes it. The teens embark on a crazed night and run around the school.

Alice runs into the bathroom to throw up, but when she emerges, she finds the bathroom covered in symbols and the words "flip for your fate." On a sink sits two chalices and a coin. She runs out of the bathroom before running into the Gargoyle King.

As she is running out of the school, she sees Principal Featherhead walk in. The next morning, Featherhead is missing. After days of searching, they find his decomposing body in a school closet with symbols carved on the door and a blue tint to his lips.

Alice gathers the group together to ask what happened.

"There was blue liquid in the chalices when I saw them," she says. "Featherhead's corpse had blue lips, and the police said he had poison in his system. What did you guys do to him?"

Everyone says they didn't see him or the Gargoyle King at the school. Alice wants to go to the cops, but the group doesn't want to. Penelope tells them that neither she nor Daryl set the quest up.

"The chalices were just sitting there," Alice says. "Anyone of us could have drank from them, so whoever invited us to the ascension party was trying to kill one or more us."

Despite Alice's protests, everyone decides to destroy the game by burning the manuals and hiding the pieces. They make a pact to hide the secret and everyone split off from each other.

What this means for the kids in Riverdale.

Betty asks her mom who could have done it, and Alice says they thought it had to have been one of the group members.

"One of us was a murderer," she says. "Whoever poisoned those cups meant for one of us to drink it at the end of the quest."

Alice begs Betty not to play the game, and she promises she won't.

Betty goes to school to check on some of the facts Alice shared with her, and she finds two G&G chalices in the trophy case at school. She goes to tell Jughead what she learns, but finds him at Dilton's bunker playing the game with Toni, Cheryl, Sweet Pea, and Fangs.

"It's all making sense," Jughead tells her. "All of this is becoming clear...I'm a level three, and it's only a matter of time until I ascend, and I get to meet him."

Now that Betty knows the truth and her friends are in too deep, it's up to her to figure out a way to stop it.

Griffins and Gargoyles

Warning: Spoilers ahead for season three of "Riverdale."

"Gryphons and Gargoyles" (G&G) is a dangerous game on "Riverdale."

The role-playing game, similar to "Dungeons and Dragons," has resulted in two deaths so far — RIP Dilton and Ben— and it's sure to affect more residents as the third season of the hit CW show progresses.

Betty and Jughead are working together to uncover the mystery surrounding the game, and viewers are trying to do the same.

Here's what we know so far.

How is the game affecting Riverdale?

jughead ben dilton riverdale

The first introduction to the game comes when Jughead tries to ask Ben and Dilton what they are playing at Pop's Diner during the premiere. Dilton tries to answer, but all he gets out is "Gryphons and..." before Ben tells him to shut up.

Later, when Jughead is preparing to go to Archie's trial, Dilton knocks on Jug's door in a panic.

When Jughead asks who, Dilton eventually responds with, "The Gargoyle King."

Jughead finds a paper covered in weird symbols and what looks to be a stick creature in his home after a visit from Dilton. The symbols lead Jughead to the woods where he finds Ben and Dilton unresponsive and kneeling in front of an altar with symbols carved into their backs. Dilton dies in the park due to cyanide consumption after mixing the poison with Fresh-Aid. After recovering in the hospital, Ben then leaps to his death out of the hospital window mentioning that he isn't afraid to "ascend" like Dilton was.

Betty and Jughead learn that Ethel is also playing the game. When they confront her, she reveals that Dilton had a secret bunker in the woods.

Betty and Jughead later find the bunker and discover that the poisoned chalice Ben and Dilton drank from was part of G&G.

How do they play the game?

jughead ethel gryphons game riverdale

In the bunker, Betty and Jug find coins with the Gargoyle King on them, drawings of the king, and various knick-knacks from the game. Betty and Jug also find the missing boy from Dilton's troop who tells them that Ben and Ethel were dating in the game.

Betty and Jughead go to Ethel to ask more questions and Jughead asks what the "kingdom" means. He also inquires about the rulebook, which Ethel refers to as the "scripture."

She tells him that he "isn't worthy of the king's scripture," so he asks if she can show him. But she says that only Jughead can play because Betty "will never be worthy, no matter how hard you try."

When Jughead goes to the bunker and meets Ethel, she is dressed in her Princess Etheline gown. She has him choose a character, and he picks the Hellcaster.

"Good choice," she says. "That was Ben's avatar. I was supposed to ascend with him but then he betrayed me and finished the game with Dilton instead."

The game consists of a die and quests that the players must compete. Sometimes, they dress up in costumes to match their characters.

After getting through part of the game, Ethel presents Jughead with two chalices. When he incredulously asks if one of them is poisoned, she says it's "gargoyle blood." He drinks it to get the manual and is fine. But before she hands it over to him, she makes him kiss her because it's all part of the "scripture."

Ethel then drinks from the other chalice and starts to get ill. He saves her life by getting her to the hospital. She denies being suicidal and then threatens Jughead if he spills the secrets.

"I told him you were worthy enough to spread his gospel," she tells him.

What are all of the connections?

Gargoyle King drawing

The Gargoyle King himself is a terrifying creature who seems to be behind the rules of the game. Ben and Dilton die for him and Ethel bows to the creature in her hospital room claiming that she spread his gospel and soon everyone will join them.

Betty also suspects the Farm may be involved became the game seems sort of cultish. But Evelyn shuts that theory down when she says the first time she'd ever heard of the game was from Alice.

FP and Alice also freak out when they find the player's manual Jughead hid. FP takes it outside and burns it after calling it "pure evil."

Alice, FP, and the other parents found the game their junior year of high school and played it. Alice found the two chalices and coin but left the school without drinking. Their principal is later found dead with blue lips in a closet with symbols carved in the door.

But it turns out that it wasn't the only copy. Someone, possibly Ethel, distributed a manual to every student's locker at Riverdale High.

"By next weekend, almost every student at Riverdale High would be playing Gryphons and Gargoyles, and the real game was just beginning," Jughead says.

G&G isn't going away any time soon.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for season three, episode four of "Riverdale," titled "The Midnight Club."

Wednesday night's episode of "Riverdale" flashed back to when the parents were teens and finally revealed the secret they'd been hiding.

Alice tells Betty how "Gryphons and Gargoyles" became a dangerous game and resulted in the death of their principal. But when Betty goes to tell Jughead, she finds him absorbed in the game. This role-playing game is dangerous, and Betty has to figure out how to stop it.

And as always, The CW show included a number of pop culture and comic references. We worked with Archie Comics to find 10 details you may have missed.

The episode is called "The Midnight Club."

Inspired by John Hughes' "The Breakfast Club," the flashback episode shows how the parents all became friends in high school. FP, Sierra, Penelope, Hermione, Alice, and Fred all end up in detention together like the cast of "The Breakfast Club."

Anthony Michael Hall plays Principal Featherhead.

Principal Featherhead was the principal at Riverdale High when the parents were teens and monitored the students in detention.

Hall played Brian Johnson, the "brain," in Hughes' "The Breakfast Club."

The teens make references to some items that may sound familiar.

  • Veronica mentions wanting to make "Fibes 20 Under 20" list, instead of Forbes.
  • Young Hermione wants to get her Gamelad back, instead of Gameboy.
  • Young Hiram gives the teens a drug called Fizzle Rocks. The name is reminiscent of the fizzy candy Pop Rocks.

8 Netflix original shows that critics hate but are actually great

Gypsy Netflix

  • TV critics don't always get it right, and they've been particularly off-base on a few Netflix original series.
  • Here, author Caroline Frost lists eight Netflix shows that critics hated but that are actually worth your while.

With Netflix's library of original content getting ever larger, it makes sense that people will tend to follow their favorite critics in deciding what to watch and what to avoid.

However, critics don't always get it right. Though shows like "The Crown" and "GLOW" have hit the spot with critics and viewers alike, plenty of other titles have left the critics cold while winning over the public.

Here are eight Netflix original shows that were dead on arrival according to their critic scores on Rotten Tomatoes, but that are actually worth your while. And it's not just me saying so, judging by their impressive audience scores.

SEE ALSO: The best blockbuster movie of every year since 2000

'Bloodline'

Critic score: 61%

Audience score: 81%

What critics said: After an absorbing start, this family drama set in the Florida Keys stumbles to an increasingly "muddled" denouement, with no one left to like, apparently.

Reasons to love it: Even within a strong cast including Sam Shepard, Kyle Chandler, and Sissy Spacek, Ben Mendelsohn's charisma sets him apart and makes us root for him despite his role of official black sheep. The beachside family home is the stuff of gothic novels, the twists keep coming and, whenever the story lulls, the seascape along the Keys remains spectacular.

'13 Reasons Why'

Critic score: 51%

Audience score: 71%

What critics said: While many critics joined in the general praise for the hit first season, nearly as many panned the second as a weak diversion from its initial strong premise. Some called it "unnecessary."

Reasons to love itBeneath its glossy "90210"-like sheen, this goes further than any of its competitors in exploring the complex emotions of teenage years, with season two expanding on the show's initial mystery to give young grief the respect it deserves.

'The Good Cop'

Critic score: 52%

Audience score: 84%

What critics said: This latest incarnation of the eternal cop duo, this time father and son, presents nothing new, only time-honoured cliches

Reasons to love it: The show brings some laughs, some mysteries, and a comforting, couch-sinking antidote to all the dark crime drama presented elsewhere. Plus, the chemistry between leads Tony Danza and Josh Groban makes for an easy watch.

This isn't the first time CNN's Jim Acosta has sparred with Trump — here are all the times they've gone at each other

CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta and President Donald Trump are in another fight.

This time, the White House released an allegedly doctored video to spread a fake story that Acosta overly aggressive toward a White House intern managing the microphone during a press briefing Wednesday. The White House then revoked Acosta's press credentials Wednesday night.

Acosta and the White House have tangled before. Trump views CNN as his biggest media enemy, often referring to the network as "fake news" and insulting its reporters. And Acosta has a reputation for pointing out when the president or White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders say something false.

Here are eight moments when Acosta sparred with the Trump White House.

SEE ALSO: White House press secretary Sarah Sanders tweeted a doctored video of the Jim Acosta mic-grab that was shared hours earlier by the far-right site Infowars

After one of Trump's first briefings as president, Acosta lamented that he seemed to avoid tough questions.

Following one of Trump's first press briefings after his inauguration, in February 2017, Acosta pointed out that Trump appeared to be calling on news outlets he thought would be friendly.

Acosta told Wolf Blitzer on CNN that Trump only wanted to speak to politically conservative publications that wouldn't probe about his alleged contacts with Russian officials, which was the major story at the time.

"In the last three news conferences, Wolf, all of the questions to the American news media have been handled by conservative press. I think, Wolf, there's no other way to describe it, but the fix is in," Acosta said. "This president does not want to answer questions, critical questions about his associates, his aide's contacts with the Russians during the course of that campaign, just as his national security adviser is being run out of the White House on a rail."

After being confronted about Acosta being heckled, Sarah Huckabee Sanders spread a false story about US media foiling plans to track Osama bin Laden.

Trump frequently taunts the media during his campaign rallies, and his crowds often chant "CNN sucks." The refrain drew widespread attention in July, when Acosta shared video footage of people heckling him while he reported from one such rally.

Trump supporters were even denounced by Anthony Scaramucci, who had a brief stint as Trump's White House communications director.

When Huckabee Sanders, Trump's press secretary, was asked about the event at a White House press conference she deflected the question and stressed that journalists should "act responsibly and report accurately and fairly."

She then pivoted to a long-debunked urban myth, alleging that US media reports foiled a plan to track down former Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in the 1990s. According to this false story, journalists leaked classified information that led bin Laden to stop using a satellite phone, which caused the US government to lose vital intelligence about him.

The fake story was previously spread by President George W. Bush in 2005, and debunked back then as well. A Washington Post analysis of news stories about bin Laden's phone determined that US media reported about intelligence agencies tracking his phone after he had already stopped using it.

Trump ignored Acosta when he asked about five people being murdered in a Maryland newsroom.

After a shooter murdered five people in the newsroom of the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Maryland in June, Acosta asked Trump whether he'd stop calling members of the press "the enemy of the people."

Acosta shouted his questions at the end of a speech Trump gave celebrating the six-month anniversary of tax reform bill he signed. Trump ignored him and continued to call the media America's enemy.

While some people criticized Acosta, saying he was grandstanding, Acosta later defended his behavior on CNN.

"Listen, if they want to send me to hell, I'll still be shouting at the devil," Acosta said. "We have a job to do. I've said this times before and I'll say it again. They can kick us out of the briefing room, they can kick us out of the White House. We're still going to do our jobs."

Wall Street's predicting a big shake-up for AT&T's DirecTV after pay TV's worst quarter on record

game of thrones

  • The pay-TV industry had a terrible quarter, shedding over 1 million traditional subscribers in Q3.
  • This could lead to some major strategy shifts from both traditional-TV and digital-TV players, and AT&T has already hinted at some of its plans.
  • Analysts at UBS expect AT&T to launch a new digital-TV service and reposition DirecTV Now as a low-cost skinny bundle.
  • This means some channels, particularly those of Viacom, are in danger of being cut from DirecTV Now as AT&T focuses on profitability.

After a brutal quarter for traditional pay TV, which saw historic subscriber losses, TV networks are looking around nervously for which distributors can pick up the slack.

But the word from AT&T isn't encouraging.

In a note distributed on Monday, analysts at UBS took a close look at what AT&T management's recent comments indicate about the future of its TV business.

"AT&T has indicated it is shifting focus from subscriber growth to profitability and is reevaluating its programming lineups to offer skinnier bundles," according to the UBS note. AT&T launched its digital TV package, DirecTV Now, in late 2016, and has tolerated bad margins in favor of growth. The service now has almost 2 million subscribers.

But AT&T's sentiment has changed recently, and its goal is now to "stabilize EBITDA [earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization] trends in the Entertainment Group," according to UBS.

"AT&T's Entertainment Group is struggling," the analysts explained. They noted that AT&T Entertainment Group includes all the company's residential business — including DirecTV and local telephone companies that provide voice, video, and data services — and that EBITDA in the segment is down 17% year to date.

To return the segment to profitability, AT&T needs to cut costs, and a good place to do it is with DirecTV Now.

UBS expects AT&T to launch a new DirecTV digital-TV service that will be delivered through a branded streaming device and will be positioned as its "premium" offering and keep a large channel lineup similar to a traditional cable or satellite package.

"This service is expected to more closely mirror the satellite product and enable the company to take better advantage of addressable advertising while avoiding the cost of a satellite installation," analysts wrote.

In this process, UBS expects DirecTV Now to be repositioned as a "skinny bundle" of channels, allowing DirecTV to keep the price point the same but cut channels out of the package and get to profitability that way.

That means some channels, which get paid carriage fees by AT&T for every package they are included in, will feel the pain as they get dropped from some of its offerings. One "prime target" UBS sees for this is Viacom, which owns channels like MTV, Comedy Central, and Nickelodeon.

Here is how UBS analysts estimate AT&T will price its offerings:

aT&T ubs

AT&T's change in focus toward profitability is not unique in the young industry of digital TV, often referred to as vMVPD, or virtual multichannel video programming distributor.

On Thursday, BTIG analyst Rich Greenfield wrote on Twitter that all the vMVPDs were slowing to "focus on profits or lack thereof," except for YouTube TV, Hulu with Live TV, and FuboTV. He described the latter three as "playing the long game."

But whether these providers focus on short-term margins or subscriber growth, eventually their cost structures will have to come under control.

Even Hulu, which Greenfield said is focused on growth, has talked recently about creating packages that have a "positive margin." Morgan Stanley estimated last month that Hulu with Live TV did not break even on a gross-profit basis.

Any talk of margin improvement is bad news for networks. For some, they will have to make the choice of bringing their carriage fees down or getting cut out of the bundle. Others with "must-have" content will have a better position at the table. But one thing is certain: Tough negotiations are coming for everyone.

AT&T declined to comment.

big little lies outfits

When "Big Little Lies" premiered on HBO last year, viewers were instantly obsessed with the drama-filled lives of Madeline Martha Mackenzie, Celeste Wright, Renata Klein, and Jane Chapman as they navigated the politics of motherhood. Ratings skyrocketed for HBO and a second season is already on the way with big changes ahead— including a multi-episode appearance by Meryl Streep, who will play Perry Wright's mother.

But until 2019 rolls around, BLL fans are just going to have to relish in the masterpiece of the first installment, including the show's killer (pun intended) fashion. Not only do the affluent women of Monterey, California put their best foot forward in business and social endeavors, but they make sure their style is up to par as well.

Read on for the best looks from the first season of the show.

Jane Chapman set herself apart from the other Monterey moms with her laid-back, edgier style.

The show opens with a mass carpool at Otter Bay Elementarywhere Madeline Mackenzie and Jane Chapman are introduced, and right off the bat, it's clear that Jane has a different style than the polished moms of Monterey.

Her cool-girl glasses, combat boots, and skinny jeans not only have a darker color palette, butthey show she's laid back, but with a subtle edge.

Renata Klein established her role as the Head Mom In Charge in sleek business wear for school carpool.

There's a clear frenemy relationship between Renata Klein and the other moms from the start of the show, and her chic business attire at carpool establishes her dominance as the Head Mom In Charge(would you look at that tweed coat and minimalistic handbag?).You can't be a working mother without an on-trend wardrobe, after all.

Madeline Mackenzie's bright and sunny sundress painted her as the ever-polished stay-at-home mom.

If there's one thing Madeline Mackenzie is great at, it's giving off the impression that sheand her family are perfect at all times, and her bright and sunny outfit at the parent meeting in episode two shows exactly that.

  • Part of Paramount Ranch burned down during the Woolsey fire in California.
  • Some of "Westworld," including its Main Street, filmed there.

The historic Western town area at Paramount Ranch in Agoura Hills, Calif., where productions including "Westworld" have shot, burned down Friday in the Woolsey fire, according to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation area's Twitter feed.

"Westworld" uses the Western town set to shoot its Main Street scenes. The HBO series is also shot at the Melody Ranch in Santa Clarita and in Utah and other locations.

Now part of the National Park Service and open to the public, the ranch has been the site of numerous productions throughout the years and was first started by Paramount Pictures in 1927. Among the films that shot at the ranch were "Caught in the Draft" with Bob Hope, "The Lake House" with Sandra Bullock, and TV shows including "The Mentalist,""Weeds," and "Quickdraw."

"Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman" shot there from 1992 to 1997. Before the area was a public park, it was used for car racing in the 1950s as the Paramount Raceway, which was portrayed in the film "The Devil's Hairpin."

The Malibu, Calabasas and Agoura areas are all under evacuation due to the fast-moving Woolsey fire, and numerous entertainment figures have been forced to leave the area, battling massive traffic jams. As of noon on Friday, the fire was moving into the Malibu area, where numerous valuable properties are constructed on the bone-dry, brush-covered hills.

'The Walking Dead' showrunner discusses that big Rick and Michonne surprise and why it was added to the show

rick michonne walking dead

Warning: There are massive spoilers ahead for season nine, episode six of "The Walking Dead,""Who are you Now?"

One week after Rick Grimes' final episode of AMC's "The Walking Dead," the fandom has another reason to rejoice.

While a new group was introduced on Sunday's episode of the zombie drama, "TWD" also surprised fans with a rather subtle introduction to Rick and Michonne's son in the time jump.

walking dead rick michonne child

And he doesn't have just any name. If you missed it, INSIDER can confirm that Michonne's son is named after his father, Rick Grimes.

"Yes, it’s R.J. for Rick Jr. That’s his name," showrunner Angela Kang confirmed to INSIDER.

The show planted the seeds for Rick Jr. back on the third episode of season nine. Michonne said she was working on a charter for the future of the community. Rick interrupted her work and said he could think of some other ways to build for the future, by insinuating they have a child.

richonne baby twd

For a while, fans of Richonne, the couple name given to Rick and Michonne, have been asking whether or not we may see Rick and Michonne have a child of their own.

"In terms of the baby, it’s funny. I don’t always read the online reactions,” Kang said in reference to many fans who have been asking for a Richonne baby. “I’m not unaware of it, but we’re so busy actually making the show in the present. I’m on set right now tucked away in a weird little room that I just don’t actually have the time to read all the reactions.”

So how did the idea for Rick Jr. come about? Kang isn’t just adding in a Rick and Michonne baby simply because it’s what the fandom wants.

“But it was really, internally for us, we were talking so much about, ‘What is it that happens after a war?’ And how do people rebuild and what are the things they do? And one of the things that’s true to a post-war society is there tends to be a baby boom," said Kang. "This has happened throughout history across cultures."

The end of World War I and World War II saw massive spikes in birth rates in the United States and overseas. According to the US Census Bureau, between 1946 to 1964 there were 76 million births in the US. (That's compared to 55 million births for Generation X and 62 million births for the Millennial generation.)

"It’s like a symbol of people’s hopefulness that maybe things are going to be better now. And, I think we wanted to show that Rick and Michonne were in a very hopeful place as they’re planning this sort of rebuilding of society, that they believe that they can create a world that is better for their children than it is for them right now," Kang said of why they chose to introduce another child to the show.

Kang also pointed out that there was just something completely different in Rick's relationship with Michonne that he didn't have with Lori that made the idea of a child for the two of them make sense.

"So that [the baby] just seemed like the ultimate symbol of their connection to each other, their commitment to each other, and it shows the travel that Rick has had since the time that Lori and Rick found out that Lori was pregnant," said Kang. "Lori was distraught, thinking this child [Judith] is not going to make it. [She thought] the child is going to die a horrible death and we may die a horrible death."

lori rick baby talk

"To see, over the years, what they’ve [Michonne and Rick] achieved, what they’ve survived, and feel like they can have a child, and continue to keep the human species going just seems like something that was very right for where they were at, at this point in the story," Kang added.

rick michonne 905

Well, Judith is alive and thriving and she’s now the oldest Grimes to look after, and protect, her younger brother, Rick Jr., the way Carl did for her growing up. We hope to see more of R.J. during the rest of the season, including the moment Michonne learns she’s pregnant. Kang teased the show will fill in some of the gaps, so our fingers are crossed.
